It is incredibly tempting to get this post going with some serious puns. I mean, c’mon…. a month name that is also a verb? How often does that happen? (Yes, yes, fine, once a year. Just you shush, logic.) But, it would be so easy and so satisfying, and, so relevant to this post – seeing as the meaning the month name and manner of the month were so closely linked – to pepper this intro with some punchy puns. However, it would also be very obvious, and a bit eye-rolly, and we could run the risk of using up this entire allocated blog-writing hour to indulging our punny bones, and not ever get around to the meat, and so therefore, nothing of the sort will be done.
So. March. It was busy: 12 events in 18 days. It was challenging: 23 consecutive days out of the office, most out of Cape Town. It was rewarding: 6 big jobs for 4 happy clients. We loved it, we loathed aspects of it and we learnt a lot from it.
First on the calendar was a trip to Sun City for Cisco Connect 2017. Here we provided our favourite events company, Mela Events, with Show Calling for the 5 day conference.
From there we shot back to Jozi for set up of the E! Host Party for NBCUniversal. We were proud to once again have been a part of creating this year’s E! Africa ‘Live from the Red Carpet’ annual event. The focus of the event this year was the live reveal of the E! Africa Host Search winner. The event was a great success, attended by the who’s who of the SA celeb scene, with a buzzing red carpet, gorgeously branded venue, and a thrilling reveal of Katleho Sinivasan as the new E! Africa Host. Congrats Katleho! The event trended on Twitter for the night and guests partied into the early hours to the sounds of DJ Doowap and DJ Black Coffee. Check out more here.
With not a moment to catch our breath we hightailed it back to Cape Town to join the Mela Events A-team again, where we supported their events management team at the ABInBev SLC Conference and Awards Ceremony 2017, providing Show Calling, Stage Management, Speaker Training and Content Management for five days.
That ended just in time to start build up on another of our own events: a hospitality stand and VIP dinner for M-Net, DStv and SuperSport at the Cape Town Carnival. We loved working on this quintessential Mother City event and enjoyed creating the DStv Coral Cove, where VIP guests were treated to prime view of the Carnival in all its splendour. Read about it here.
Okay, at this point we’ve been going at a crazy pace for two weeks and need some time out. Maybe even a holiday? Somewhere beautiful where the sun shines and sea beckons and the sand is warm beneath your feet. Ooh, we know just the place: Mauritius!!! Only…. we did not jet off on a holiday immediately following the carnival, we once again Show Called and Stage Managed for Mela Events on the sandy Mauritian shores at the Standard Bank Mark of Excellence Awards 2017.
And so ended this mad, manic, sleepless month…
WE LOVED working with the best A-Teams and surpassing all clients’ expectations on every event. We did a lot of euphoric fist-pumping and saying the word BOOM.
We LOATHED how sore our feet were by the end of it, and getting blisters on ALL of our toes. But at least we got our steps in! FitBit worked overtime as we achieved our step targets EVERY single day. Cue: fist-pump, BOOM… and free coffee at Vida.
We LEARNT that comfy shoes are a must, you CAN survive on an average of three hours’ sleep a night for a whole month and that when it seems unconquerable, you just have to keep marching on, because all months must come to end.
And finally… colouring-in walls are very therapeutic, and are not just for kids…
