Our 2017 Wrap Up Yes, we know. Another year, no posts, so busy, so sorry,…
A Great Big Bang!
Generally, January is a slow warm-up for us. A nice stretch out, wiggle of the toes, deep breath, long sigh and ahhhh….. hello new year, you’re looking lovely. Normally, we have time to drink lots of coffee during “planning meetings”, catch up on admin, update the website, close off all from the previous year and clean out the cupboards. We do some marketing, some cold-calling, we send out our company profile to potential clients, and finish it all off in time to leave early and miss traffic on the way home.
Well, THIS January over at Show Works headquarters, the cupboards are still a mess, the filing is piled on the couch and we have been sitting on the M5 for hours in peak going-home traffic every day. No lazy rolling into the year for us, we ran head-long straight into 2015 with a great big bang, called NBCUniversal!
January kicked off with 3 big events for NBCUniversal. As a ‘Welcome-Back’ to 2015, NBCUniversal hosted their top Adsales clients for a fun and interactive day cooking day at The Good Food Studio in JHB, and Eleven Kitchen Venue in CPT. The events allowed guests to have some ‘foodie’ fun together, as they learnt how to cook a range of amazing tapas-style dishes with celebrity chef, Justine Drake. After Justine demo’d the dishes, guests divided into teams to try their hand at the recipes, before sitting down to enjoy the food they themselves had cooked! All the dishes were themed and linked the NBCU channels – Telemundo, E! Entertainment, Studio Universal & Universal Channel – and guests were challenged to work with our sommelier to pair the correct wine with each dish in order to win branded spot prizes.
With these two events successfully done and dusted, we had a week back in office to finalise all elements for NBCUniversal’s next offering: E! Entertainment’s glamourous “Live From The Red Carpet” event to celebrate Awards Seasons for 2015. Media, adsales clients, local celebrities and lucky competition winners from the public enjoyed an evening of red carpet glitz and glam – and most people pulled out all the stops, arriving in gorgeous designer outfits and strutting their stuff for the paparazzi lining the red carpet. Guests were greeted at the entrance to The Venue, Melrose Arch, with a display of 2 stylish Jaguars, and were encouraged to engage in a social media competition to win an exclusive “Jaguar Experience”, before walking the red carpet and being interviewed by our beautiful host, Lalla Hirayama, who wore a spectacular designer gown by David Thale. Entering The Venue, guests took their “fingers for a stroll down the red carpet” too – showing off their manicures with our ManiCam. Inside, the evening was one big party, with a champagne bar, delicious canapés, a nail bar sponsored by Essie, and musical entertainment by MiCasa. Guests partied the night away, and enjoyed the opportunity to see and be seen, schmooze and mingle, before departing with goody bags bursting with top-end premiums including bottles of champagne, Jaguar pen sets, Essie nail polishes and much more!
While all of this has been going on, we FINALLY received final, final, FINAL (this has been a looooong process) sign off and confirmation on all the performance elements we are providing for the Pick and Pay Franchisee Conference in Zambia in May. Can we get a Whoop Whoop!?! We are taking 59 performers from SA across to Zambia for the conference and are now knee deep in logistics to make this all happen: receiving 59 passports, yellow fever vacs, registering all details, work permits clearance from the National Arts Council of Zambia, confirming set lists, tech riders, hospitality riders, rooming lists, costume fittings, rehearsals…eeeek! It is full steam ahead and there are lists coming out of our ears, but… we just love it!
In among all that – we have lots of other pots boiling – appearances with Spur’s Soaring Eagles mascot at the Junior Argus, Show Calling at the Cape Wine Auction, team building events for Multichoice, working on a year-long internal communications marketing campaign for Direct Axis, and a few other big-ticket events for big-ticket clients that are still under wraps…. okay everyone, just breeaaaattthhhhheee….
Looks like those cupboards are going to need to wait for January 2016!
